"While working on the Mass in A flat, Schubert set several sections twice, recognising only the second setting as valid. Except where otherwise stated, the version of the Mass recorded here is Schubert's definitive version. However, the 'Cum Sancto Spiritu' section (track 7) is taken from the first version. Also recorded (track 16) is the earliest draft of the 'Et incarnatus est,' with significantly lighter scoring, and with the words 'ex Maria Vergine' omitted"--Program notes.
The 2nd work is a setting of Antonio Schmidl's Herr, unser Gott!; text of the 3rd work originally in Hebrew.
