  • Book News : Book News Reviews
This is the fifth iteration of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which presents the criteria for the classification and identification of mental disorders and is widely influential in the field and in associated areas concerned with psychiatric classification (e.g., the law). Although extremely influential, it is not without its critics, who have charged that it lacks concern with causes, that it is culturally biased, that it is formulated under conditions of conflict of interest, and that it medicalizes normal human behaviors, among other issues. Although this fifth edition has been extensively revised in terms of its classifications of disorders and in terms of its numbering system, these changes are unlikely to satisfy the aforementioned critics.
